새로운 철학 교실 모델의 이론적·실천적 기초 ―립맨과 세인트존스 컬리지 세미나를 중심으로―

일상에서 철학을 실천하는 활동을 목표로 하는 BK21FOUR 사업단에 참여한 논자는 사업단 활동을 통해 철학 교육이 이러한 능력을 배양시킬 수 있을 것이라 보았고, 현시대에 필요한 철학을 배양시키기 위한 새로운 철학교실 모델의 필요성을 느꼈다. 이에 논자는 본 연구를 통해 철학교실 모델 확립을 위한 이론적·실천적 토대를 마련하고자 하며, 이를 위해 립맨의 어린이 철학 이론과 세인트존스 컬리지 세미나 활동에 주목할 것이다. 먼저 립맨이 강조한 다차원적 사고력(multidimensional thinking)과 탐구공동체(community of inquiry)에 주목하여 이를 철학 교실 모델의 이론적 기초로 삼고자 한다. 나아가서 미국의 세인트존스 컬리지의 세미나 모델을 분석하고 이것이 지니는 탐구공동체와의 유사성에 기초하여 이것을 새로운 철학교실의 실천적 기초로 활용하고자 한다.
Abstract
The writer who participated in the BK21FOUR project group, which aims to practice philosophy in daily life, saw that philosophy education could cultivate this ability through the project group activities, and felt the need for a new philosophy classroom model to cultivate philosophy necessary in the present era. Therefore, the study intends to lay the theoretical and practical foundation for establishing a philosophy classroom model through this study, and will pay attention to Lipman’s children’s philosophy theory and St. John’s College seminar activities. First, we will focus on multidimensional thinking and community of inquiry emphasized by Lipman and use it as the theoretical basis of the philosophy classroom model. Furthermore, we will analyze the seminar model of St. John’s College in the United States and use it as a practical basis for a new philosophy class based on its similarity to the inquiry community.
