Abstract

This study uses a social survey conducted in May 2020, when COVID-19 prevention were being successfully implemented, to examine the impact of cognitive trust in the effective response and participation of various actors, such as the government and citizens, on collective efficacy and national pride. According to the analysis results, it was confirmed that Koreans had a significantly positive attitude, particularly in their perception of national capacity. And individuals with higher cognitive trust in the responses and participation of various actors like the government and citizens in relation to COVID-19 prevention were found to rate Korea's national capacity higher in various aspects, which in turn led to a higher level of national pride. Specifically, the more positively people evaluated the participation of ordinary citizens, the more significant the positive effects on collective efficacy and pride were observed across various aspects. This study provides insights into how Korean society, experiencing various social crises, can create a positive virtuous cycle between collective participation and positive social psychology for problem-solving.
