한국군 장병의 집단효능감과 국가정체성 간의 연관성에 관한 실증분석

초록

군인에게 국가정체성 혹은 국가관이란 무엇인가? 군인은 어떻게 국가정체성을 체화하는가? 군대의 어떤 사회적 요인이 군인의 국가정체성 형성에 영향을 미치는가? 그동안 국가정체성 혹은 국가관에 관한 기존의 연구는 학술적 연구와 실무상의 필요성에 따라 상이하게 탐색되어 왔다. 이 논문은 학제간 연구의 관점에 따라 사회학, 심리학, 그리고 군 사회과학 연구에서 검토되어 온 국가정체성/국가관에 관한 문헌을 일차적으로 정리하고 이를 측정하기 위한 지표를 제시한다. 뒤이어 군 장병들이 병영 내에서 실감하는 집단효능감(collective efficacy)이 국가정체성의 형성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 이론적으로 검토한다. 육, 해, 공군 30개 부대, 3000여명의 국군 장병을 대상으로 2019년에 조사한 실증자료를 분석하여 높은 집단효능감과 강한 국가정체성 사이의 정적(+) 관계를 확인할 수 있었다.

Abstract

What does national identity signify for military servicepersons? How do servicepersons embody a specific form of national identity? What social conditions shape servicepersons' national identities? Growing military policy demands have motivated researchers to explore these topics regarding national identities in South Korea. In this study, we review and examine bodies of psychology, sociology, and military studies literature with respect to national identity, and bring forth a comprehensive and empirical measurement of national identity. We also theoretically discuss how individual servicepersons' collective efficacy is associated with the strength of national identity. Our statistical analysis examining more than three thousand servicepersons shows that there is a statistically and substantially significant relationship between collective efficacy and national identity.
