Abstract

This paper aims to reflect on the vision of the Church in relation to 'secularity' and 'solidarity', thinking about the ongoing relationship between the Church and modernity within an eschatological horizon. Secularism is a key form of challenge facing the Church in the modern world, and it is necessary to analyze 'secularity' in terms of the cultural changes in the conditions of faith that have occurred since the Second Vatican Council. We will reflect on how secularity as a cultural reality, with its rapid diversification of spiritual ways, poses constraints for Christianity and what vision of the Church can offer for the future of Christianity in the modern world. The meaning of the apocalypse in Balthasar's writings emphasizes his vision of the mutual drama between God and the world. In Balthasar's theology, eschatology and the depiction of theodramatic (theodramatic) action go hand in hand. Balthasar's eschatological writings contain a metaphysical renewal that can illuminate the ultimate nature of reality in the dramatic solidarity of God and the world in Christ, and can provide resources for the renewal of the Church envisioned by the Second Vatican Council and its missionary “opening to the world. At a time when Christian mission in the modern world has largely retreated from Catholic theological discourse, studying Balthasar, an important twentieth-century Catholic theologian in the spirit of the Second Vatican Council, offers a possible way to build a vision of the Church in a secular age.
