덕 윤리에 대한 비판과 그 고유성에 대한 해명

앤스콤이 선, 성품과 같은 아리스토텔레스적 개념을 도덕 철학의 중심 관심사로 복귀시켜야 한다고 주장한 이후로, 덕 윤리는 많은 주목을 받으며, 다양한 방식으로 논의되었다. 그러나 덕 윤리에 대한 통일된 설명이나 해명은 아직 이루어지지 않았다. 본 논의는 덕 윤리의 공통된 특징을 통해서 덕 윤리의 고유한 특징을 해명해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 먼저 덕 윤리에 대한 관심이 재등장하게 된 연유와 그 원인을 서술하였다. 또한 덕 윤리가 주장하는 두 가지 모습, 즉 적극적 방법과 소극적 방법을 설명하면서 이들의 방법이 덕 윤리의 정체성을 드러내는 데 충분하지 못하다는 것을 비판적으로 제시하였다. 그리고 칸트주의와 공리주의는 덕 윤리가 강조하고 있는 성품을 자신들의 이론 안에서 충분히 반영하지도, 더구나 승인하지도 못한다는 것을 고찰였다. 이러한 고찰을 통하여 덕 윤리가 칸트주의 윤리나 공리주의 윤리 그리고 여타의 윤리들과는 다른 어떤 특징을 갖는지를 보이고자 하였다. 이와 더불어 덕 윤리에 제기되는 비판을 재점검하여 이에 반론을 제기함으로써, 덕 윤리 자체의 성립 가능성을 옹호하였다.
Abstract
After G.E.M Anscombe insisted Aristotle's ethical terms like Good and trait of character should be to matter of common central interest of moral philosophy, virtue ethics was given attention. but still virtue ethics was not explained systematically. This paper takes aim at explaining a peculiarity of virtue ethics. For this purpose, first, causes of re-appearance in interests of virtue ethics is investigated. and the two types, positive method and negative method which present the characteristic of virtue ethics would be discussed. Through this discussion, we can distinguish the difference between the characteristic of virtue ethics and the characteristic of Kantian ethics and utilitarianism Also it is enquired whether the critics on virtue ethics is justified or not, and I try to present some answer on this critics. I prove this critics seems to be not justified.
