differences according to the language of the tribe. Therefore it is very important to know the elements of African religions or folk beliefs, universality and specificity as a prerequisite for understanding Africa. This is because African beliefs, cultures and religious values are the starting point for comprehensively understanding their beliefs and thinking systems. The Ewe are an ethnic group living in Ghana and southern Togo in West Africa. They are an indigenous tribe belonging to the Melano-African race of the Negro of Sudan. The Ewe make up the majority of Togo’s population and some 4.5 million people speak their native language, Ewe (Èʋe, Èʋegbe) as their mother tongue. About 1 million people speak Ewe as a second language. The Ewe are the representative tribe of Togo and the central people of West Africa. Primitive models still remain in their unique life and folk beliefs. However many things are changing in the Ewe society culture due to the influence of Western values and industrialization. But even if a new culture is introduced, the culture of oral tradition is still inherited. It reveals the form of a mixture of traditional culture and new culture. If we know the origins, characteristics and religious and cultural values of the Ewe people, it will be possible to approach the Ewe people from various aspects. In this thesis, the ethnographic and political society of Togo, the economic and religious cultural interface and the hybrid culture resulting from the fusion of various ethnic groups are to be considered by examining the origins, culture and religious values of the Ewe people of the Republic of Togo. I intend to prepare basic data for the mission of the Ewe people through this study. We should first understand their culture and religious values and make efforts to reach out to them for the mission of the Ewe. The Ewe people are already aware that society is changing at a rapid pace and are trying to preserve their culture. Therefore we should approach them with an attitude of respect for their culture in order to spread the gospel to these people.
