A Study of Du Halde's A Description of the Empire of China

本文章对耶稣会传教士杜赫德(Jean-Baptiste Du Halde, 1674-1743)编撰於1735年的著书≪中华帝国全志≫进行了研究｡ 产生在近代欧洲的有关中国的资料, 其量和深度非同一般得令人驚奇｡ 在漫长的历史裡东亚和东南亚国家通过與中国的交流积蓄了很多有关中国的资料, 但與此相比, 近代欧洲积蓄的有关中国学资料, 在数量和内容方面更加津津有味｡中国與欧洲的文化交叉不是单单的中国旅行或访问后的印象记水平, 而是有关对中国的介绍和研究为欧洲近代文化的形成做出了举足轻重的作用｡ 在欧洲近代史上中国是形成近代欧洲的一个因素｡ 在这種意义上看, 不可忽视欧洲看中国的视线引起变化的18世纪欧洲启蒙主义时期｡ 杜赫德著书就站在欧洲对中国的视线有变化的中间位置｡本文章先简单了解杜赫德著书出版时期的背景并调查最初在巴黎出版的法语原版和其他版本｡ 除了巴黎原版外还有在荷兰海牙(Hague)用法语出版的海牙版(1736)､ 两種英语翻译版(1736-1741)､ 德语翻译版和俄语翻译版四種｡ 通过对这些版本的调查可知, 杜赫德的著书不是用當时耶稣会传教士常用的拉丁语而是用法语来书写的｡ 而且次年法语版本以低廉的價格再次出刊, 同样的法语版本这次却不同於第一次出刊的豪华精装书｡ 法国原版出版后的第二年开始出版英文翻译版｡通过对围着互不相同的版本而出版的各国出版背景､ 时期､ 版本的形态與质量､ 收录内容等进行的调查可以推测當时欧洲对中国学的关心有增無减｡ 同时當时的出版语言不是欧洲传统语言拉丁语而是以本国语中心的翻译版, 由此可见17世紀欧洲知识社会出现大众化现象｡ 这普遍现象证实, 在近代欧洲国民国家(nation-state) 形成过程中曾普遍用本国语｡
