本研究は日本のポップカルチャーの一ジャンルである「特撮」について、飛行機や、19世紀ヨーロッパの視覚文化―万国博覧会、塔、気球、パノラマ、ツーリズム等々―に内在する想像力が底流しているものと考え、草創期（1950年代～1960年代）の特撮コンテンツと、近代的な視覚文化を比較的に論じるものである。特に、万国博覧会や、そこから派生した植民地博覧会が、自らの立ち位置を基点として、帝国主義的な視点により、南洋や東洋を劣位におくべき外部と捉え、エキセントリックな装飾を施し、エンターテインメントの中に可視化した点に注目する。草創期の特撮コンテンツにおいて、アジアや南洋、アフリカを「異境」として描いた点、そこからやがて、日本の真相を捉えるドキュメンタリー的な想像力に推移していく点などについて論じる。
Abstract
“Tokusatsu” are live-action films and TV with an emphasis on special effects. Tokusatsu drew on varied elements and situations, using both a glorious capital and poorer regions as settings. Then, brought together such human aspects as family, love, politics, national defense, mass-media, science etc. Both Godzilla and other Japanese Tokusatsu tended to overlook many aspects of post-World War II Japan.It’s like a panorama. In this research, Tokusatsu, a genre of Japanese pop culture, underlies the imagination inherent in airplanes and visual culture in 19th century Europe: World Expositions, Towers, Balloons, Panoramas, Tourism, etc. It is a relatively discussion of Tokusatsu content from the early days (1950s to 1960s) and modern visual culture. In particular, note that the World Exposition and the colonial expositions derived from it have an imperial perspective, glazed with the South and East, decorated with eccentric decoration, and visualized in the entertainment.
