Abstract
This study aims to empirically examine the relationship between the geographical demand and supply of social welfare services in Korea. Specifically, this study described the geographical distribution of social welfare service demand and supply at a lower level local autonomy using Geographic Information System (GIS), and identified geographical clusters using Local Indicators of Spatial Association(LISA). In addition, a series of spatial regression analyses were conducted to examine factors associated with the level of geographical distribution of social welfare organizations. Findings showed that the level of the social welfare service capacity in a community was positively associated with the level of the potential demand. Additionally, the level of community disadvantage and social welfare spending in local governments were found to be positively associated with the supply of social welfare services. Policy implications were further discussed for the balanced and efficient supply of social welfare services in Korea.
