백제가 요서 지역을 경략했다는 기사는 중국 사서에서 複數로 보인다. 그럼에도 이 기사를 수용하지 않고 하나의 說로만 간주한데는 백제에 대한 편견이 깔려 있었다. 백제의 항해력에 대한 불신과 더불어, 소국이 어떻게 북중국 일각을 지배할 수 있겠냐는 선입견에 말미암았다. 백제의 요서경략은 조선시대 이래 논란의 중심에 있었다. 그러나 민족주의 사학자들과 해방 이후의 신민족주의 사학자들은 요서경략을 수용했고, 또 교과서에도 수록되었다. 그러나 현재 백제의 요서경략은 학계에서는 하나의 학설쯤으로 치부되었고, 가능하지 않은 사실로 운위하는 게 통설이 된 것이다. 그러나 백제의 요서경략을 부정하려면 넘어야할 산들이 많았다. 본고에서는 요서경략 부정론의 맹점을 적시하여 균형잡힌 역사서술을 위한 작은 역할을 하고자 했다. 다양성을 추구하는 多極社會에서 역사학은 오히려 일률적으로 흘러가는 것 같아서였다. 이 점 분명히 밝혀둔다.
Abstract
Records that Baekje occupied the western part of China's Liaohe are seen in many places in Chinese history books. Nevertheless, it was based on prejudice against Baekje that it did not accept this record and regarded it as a theory. In addition to the distrust of Baekje's navigational power, the preconceived notion of how a small country can rule over a single piece of North China. The record of Baekje occupying the west of Liaohe has been at the center of controversy since the Joseon Dynasty. However, nationalist historians and post-World War II neo-nationalist historians accepted the record that Baekje occupied the western part of Liaohe and were also included in the textbooks. However, the current record of Baekje's occupation of the west of Liaohe was regarded as a theory by the academic community, and it was widely believed that it was not possible. However, there were many Obstacle to overcome to deny the record. In this Thesis, Baekje sought to play a small role in balanced historical writing by finding blind spots in its claim to deny the record that Baekje ruled the western part of Liaohe. In a society full of individuality seeking diversity, history seemed to flow uniformly. I'll make this point clear.
