Abstract

Our study will analyze the determinants of risk judgement, in particular, risk perception, aboutFukushima nuclear power accidents, 2011 and general nuclear power. To explain the riskperception, we integrated the risk perception paradigm and risk communication model, whichhave been studied separatedly. The results shows first, the demographic variables did not well explain the variance of riskperception whereas variables from risk perception paradigm and risk communication model, contribute to explaining the degree of risk. Moreover, two independent factors maintain theexplanation power after controlling each other. Second, perceived r isk, stigma, and trust inrisk perception paradigm, quantity of negative information, perceiver’s involvement and abilityin risk communication model significantly explain the risk perception. Finally, variables withintwo factors show conditional relationships in which one’s effect on risk perception dependson other.
