Abstract
This study aims to examine the reciprocal influence between student life satisfaction and teacher-student relationships over time. To achieve this objective, data from the 2018-2021 Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey, focusing on a cohort of fourth-grade elementary school students, were analyzed using a total of 2,607 participants. Auto-regressive cross-lagged modeling was employed to analyze the data. The results indicate that, firstly, higher levels of life satisfaction in fourth-grade students are associated with subsequent increases in life satisfaction over time. Similarly, positive teacher-student relationships in fourth grade are correlated with improved relationships over time. Secondly, both paths of the cross-lagged effects, ‘from student life satisfaction to teacher-student relationship’ and ‘from teacher-student relationship to student life satisfaction,’ were observed to be statistically significant, confirming a significant reciprocal relationship between student life satisfaction and teacher-student relationships. Based on these findings, the necessity of interventions to enhance the reciprocal relationship between student life satisfaction and teacher-student relationships is discussed, along with potential strategies for implementation.
