영화를 활용한 한국어 소설교육 연구 - 「소나기」를 중심으로 -

Abstract

This study is to help Korean language students have a better understanding of the content, language and culture of the novels read in class by actively using films. Korean language education has been improved in both quantity and quality, and the purpose of learning Korean has been diversifying. However, despite those changes and many studies on approaches and methods to teaching literature, teachers in the field still use literature as a subsidiary means to help understand the language or the culture, not going further to instill a deep appreciation of literature. Hence, this study suggests ‘using films to teach novels’ as a way to make learners actively read literature and deepen their experience of the literature. As methods to help learners actively participate in the understanding of novels, language and culture, this study uses ‘narratives’ that exist in both novels and films. If understanding of characteristics of novel and film narratives precedes reading or viewing of those works, learners can have a better understanding of both novels and films. Learners also can deepen their understanding of Korean literature, culture and society through activities that compare the narratives in novels and films. A series of activities such as reading novels and watching films and comparing, analyzing, and discussing their respective narratives can increase learners' language ability as well. Furthermore, through narratives of novels and films which express stories in different ways, learners can expand their indirect experience and have a better understanding of the world and life. In Chapter 2, the conditions and aims of current Korean literature education are discussed. In Chapter 3, the advantages of using films to teach novels in Korean Language Education are suggested. In Chapter 4, the methods of using films to teach novels in Korean Language Education are presented. In Chapter 5, an example of teaching Whang Sun-Won's Sonaki (1953), by using TV drama adaptation of the same title made by KBS (2005) is presented in detail.
