본 연구는 폴리시스템 이론(Polysystem Theory)을 바탕으로 국내에서 번역된 포르투갈어 문학 작품의 현황과 번역 방식을 분석한다. 초창기 번역학 연구는 추로 출발텍스트(ST)와 도착텍스트(TT) 간의 언어적 관계에 초첨을 맞추었으나, 1960년대 이후 스코포스 이론, 담화-문화적 기능 분석, 폴리시스템 이론 등이 등장하면서 번역 연구의 범위가 확장되었다. 본 연구는 2024년 6월까지 한국에서 번역된 조제 사라마구(José Saramago)의 문학 작품을 목록화하여 제시하고, 폴리시스템 이론을 적용하여 서지목록을 분석한다. 본 연구는 이러한 번역 현상을 번역 외부적 시스템과 번역 내부적 시스템으로 나누어 분석하며, 폴리시스템 이론의 틀 안에서 번역 문학이 어떻게 선택되고, 번역 방식이 결정되는지를 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 통해 노벨 문학상 수상이 사라마구 문학이 국내에 소개되는 데에 가장 큰 요인이 되었고, 번역 방식은 중역이 주되었음을 확인할 수 있었다.
Abstract
This study analyzes the current status and translation methods of Portuguese literary works translated in Korea, based on Polysystem Theory. Early translation studies focused primarily on the linguistic relationship between the Source Text (ST) and the Target Text (TT), but since the 1960s, the scope of translation research has expanded with the emergence of theories such as Skopos Theory, discourse-cultural function analysis, and Polysystem Theory. This research lists and presents the literary works of José Saramago translated in Korea up until June 2024, and applies Polysystem Theory to analyze the bibliography. This study divides these translation phenomena into external and internal translation systems and examines how translated literature is selected and how translation methods are determined within the framework of Polysystem Theory. Through this, it was confirmed that winning the Nobel Prize in Literature was the primary factor in the introduction of Saramago's literature in Korea, and that indirect translation was the predominant method used.
