초록
Cerebral involvement is an unusual complication in patients with multiple myeloma (MM). The causes include h y p e r v i s c o s i t y, amyloidosis, metabolic derangements such as hypercalcemia and leptomeningeal metastasis or direct invasion, in addition to the complication and toxicity of chemotherapy. Cerebral infarction associated with MM has been rarely reported. The mechanism of cerebral infarction was mainly small artery involvement by hyperviscosity or hypercoagulability. We present a rare case of cerebral infarction, due to extracranial carotid artery occlusion associated with MM. (Korean Journal of Stroke 2005;7(2): 228~231)
