The doctrine of justification has been criticized by Reformed scholars in Korea. They believe that justification is one of the main causes that degraded the level of Korean Christians. Unfortunately, however, the criticisms of justification are based upon vague or even wrong conceptions of essential Reformed doctrines. The essay tries to clarify the true meanings of justification, sanctification, faith, and good works and their relationship. In so doing, the author demonstrates that the doctrine of good works does not its necessity (necessary for Christian life), justification is the ground for good works, and justification cooperates with sanctification with regard to good works. In order to encourage Christians to do good works, the best way is to diligently use external means of grace: the pure preaching of the Word, the administration of sacraments according to the Word, and prayer.
Abstract
