“오직 믿음(sola fide)”는 종교개혁의 핵심 모토 중의 하나였다. 이 구호를 통해 종교개혁가들은 로마 카톨릭 교회의 비성경적인 종교적 의무에서 신음하고 있는 참된 신자들을 해방시켰다. 그러나 다른 종교개혁의 교리들도 마찬가지지만 “오직 믿음” 역시 한국 교회에서 제대로 이해되지 못하고 있는데, 무엇보다 “오직”만을 지나치게 강조하다 보니 정작 믿음 자체에 대한 논의는 거의 없었다. 본 논문은 “오직 믿음”에서 말하는 믿음은 구원을 일으키는 믿음만을 의미하며, 이 믿음은 복음의 약속에 대한 분명한 지식, 그것에 대한 굳건한 확신, 그리고 그 약속을 하는 분에 대한 철저한 신뢰라는 것을 밝힘으로써, 믿음에 대한 종교개혁자들의 이해가 다른 신학전통과 어떻게 구별되는지 보다 분명하게 보여 줄 것이다. “오직 믿음”을 제대로 이해한다면, 이 교리가 신자로 하여금 도덕적 무관심으로 이끈다는 주장이 얼마나 근거 없는 것인가를 쉽게 알 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
Sola fide is one of the key mottos of the Reformation by which the Reformers liberated the true Christians from the burdens of unbiblical religious obligations of the Roman Catholic Church. Like other protestant doctrines, however, sola fide has often lead many Korean protestants to misconceptions and moral indifference. Most of all, too much emphasis on “only” prevented protestants from paying proper attention to “faith” itself. The essay demonstrates that the faith of sola fide means none other than the saving faith, which is the sure knowledge of the promise of the gospel, the firm assurance of it, and the complete trust in the one who promises. This study will help readers to understand clearer differences between the Reformed and other theological traditions on some important soteriological issues.
