잠언 31장 1-9절의 해석학적 기능 -르무엘 왕(잠 31:1-9)과 현숙한 여인(잠 31:10-31)의 상호관련성을 중심으로

본 논문은 그동안 학계에서 주목받지 못했던 잠언 31장 1-9절을 주해하되, 특별히 31장 10-31절에 나타나는 현숙한 여인의 주제와 연결하여 살펴본 후, 이 두 본문이 서로 함께 어우러져 잠언 전체의 해석학적 결론으로 어떤 기능을 하고 있는지를 점검한다. 먼저 1-9절의 르무엘 왕 어머니의 교훈에서는, 왕에게 여인과 독주에 대하여 경고하는 어머니의 훈계를 발견할 수 있다. 여인과 독주라는 두 가지 주제는 왕으로서 공의의 판결을 행하지 못하게 하는 요소라는 공통점을 가지고 있기에, 1-9절은 왕이 버려야 할 통치태도를 의미한다고 볼 수 있다. 1-9절의 ‘여인,’ ‘공의의 판단,’ ‘능력’라는 주제들은 10-31절의 현숙한 여인에 대한 묘사와 직접적으로 연결된다. 현숙한 여인은 곧 ‘여호와 경외’에 대한 의인화이기에, 10-31절은 독자들에게 여호와 경외와 결혼할 것을 요청하는 본문으로 해석된다. 따라서 1-9절과 10-31절은 각각 ‘어떤 여인을 멀리할 것인가’와 ‘어떤 여인과 결혼할 것인가’를 보여주는 연관성을 지니고 있음을 알 수 있다. 이러한 31장의 두 본문은 잠언 전체의 해석학적 결론으로 기능한다. 10-31절이 잠언 전체를 마무리하면서 여호와 경외의 렌즈로 10-30장의 개별잠언을 해석해야 함을 역설하고 있다면, 1-9절은 여호와 경외 이외에는 그 어떤 것도 잠언 해석의 기준으로 삼아서는 안 된다는 사실을 명확하게 보여주고 있다 하겠다.
Abstract
This study purports to examine Prov 31:1-9, which has been paid not much attention to, with regard to its relationship with its following text, Prov 31:10-31, in order to explore how these texts cooperate as a hermeneutcial conclusion for the entire book of Proverbs. First, in Prov 31:1-9, the mother of king Lemuel warns him against the temptation of women and wine. This set of themes-women and wine-have in common that they put influence upon kings to get away from the righteous judgement, whereby it can be posited that Prov 31:1-9 aims at explaining on an attitude that kings should avoid. Second, several themes in Prov 31:1-9 such as women, righteous judgment, and valor directly connect with description of the woman of valor in Prov 31:10-31. Provided that the woman of valor is a personification of the fear of YHWH, Prov 31:10-31 should be understood as requesting readers to get married to the woman, namely the fear of YHWH. Therefore, it can be concluded that Prov 31:1-9 functions to present 'what woman should be avoided,' whereas Prov 31:10-31 functions to show 'what woman should be pursued.' Accordingly, the entire chapter of Proverbs 31 serves as a hermeneutical conclusion to the book of Proverbs. Prov 31:10-31 teaches that the readers should utilize the lens of the fear of YHWH as they interpret the individual proverbs in Proverbs 10-31, while Prov 31:1-9 asks the readers to abandon any hermeneutical guidelines but the fear of YHWH.
