마틴 루터의 신학은 중세의 다양한 신학적 전통에 빚지고 있다. 그에게 영향을 끼쳤던 중세의 사상중의 하나가 독일 후기 신비주의이다. 이 독일후기 신비주의 중에서도 특별히 루터에게 영향을 주었던 것으로 <독일신학>을 들 수 있다. 이 독일신학은 14세기에 등장한 저서로, 하나님의 친우회와 동일한 신학적 내용을 지니고 있다. 이 저서의 핵심적인 개념이 ‘신화’이다. 또한 ‘신화’의 핵심적 근거가 되는 것이 그리스도의 성육신이다. 성육신을 통해서 영원하시고, 불변이시며, 이성적으로 파악불가능하신 하나님이 인간의 삶에 현재한다. 따라서 신자의 삶이란 바로 하나님의 현재를 경험하는 그리스도와 연합된 삶으로 제시된다. 이러한 그리스도 중심적인 신자의 삶에 대한 이해는 루터에게서도 드러난다. 루터에게서도 ‘신화’(theosis)의 개념은 등장한다. 그러나 동방적이고 에크하르트적인 의미에서의 ‘신화’의 명사적 파악인 성격, 자질 그리고 의미에 대한 설명보다는, ‘신화’에서 ‘어떻게 이를 것인지’를 주목한다. 이로 인해 루터 역시 신화에 이르는 것은 방법으로 그리스도를 주장하게 된다. 결국 신자의 살이란 그리스도와 연합이라는 점에서 중세 후반의 독일신학의 사고와 연결된다. 그러나 이러한 루터의 신화에 대한 이해는 독일신학의 답습으로서가 아니라, 칭의와 구원이라는 속성이 강화됨으로 발전과 변화를 드러내고 있다.
Abstract
Martin Luther's theology owed much to the various theological traditions of the Middle Ages. One of the medieval ideas that influenced on him was the German mysticism in 14 century. The Book, Theologia Deutsch, among the German mysticism was especially influenced on Luther. Which appeared in the 14th century, has the same theological content as the Friends of God. The core concept of this book is ‘theosis’. That is based on the incarnation of Christ. Through the incarnation, eternal, immutable, and rationally inaccessible God is present in human life. Therefore, the believer's life is ascribed as a life which associates with Christ who presents God's Existence. This understanding on the life of believers as a Christ-centered life is also revealed by Luther. Luther also introduces the concept of 'theosis'. However, rather than explaining character, qualities, and meaning of 'theosis' in the Oriental and Echhartic sense, he paid attention to 'how to do it'. This led Luther to claim Christ as the way of theosis. In the end, the life of the believer by Luther is connected with the thought of the Theologia Deutsch in the late Middle Ages in that both insisted that it is united with Christ. However, the understanding of Luther's theosis was not a follow-up to the Theologia Deutsch, but shows the developments and changes by strengthening the property of justification and salvation.
