본 논문은 루터의 영적 시련(Anfechtung)이 그의 개혁 신학에 미친 영향을 연구하는 것으로 두 가지 방향에서 전개된다. 하나는 루터의 종교개혁적인 사유 속에 그의 영적 시련이 얼마 만큼 설득력을 갖고 있는 가를 평가하는 것이며 또 다른 하나는 루터가 자신의 독특한 경험을 어떻게 신학화 해갔는 지를 살펴보는 데 있다. 지금까지 루터와 그의 종교개혁 작업의 역사적인 배경이나 성격을 밝히기 위한 무수한 연구물들은 도서관의 서고를 꽉 채우고도 남을 정도이다. 그러나 루터의 실존적인 경험, 특히 그의 영적 시련의 개념이 어떻게 그의 종교개혁적인 사유에 작용했으며 얼마만큼 내재적 인연관성을 갖고 있는지에 대한 체계적인 연구는 거의 찾아보기 힘들 정도이다. 분명히 루터의 인물됨이나 그의 종교개혁운동은 당시의 역사적인 콘텍스트에서 파악될 때 그가 주장하 했던 내용들이 명백하게 드러난다. 그러나 그의 종교개혁적인 사유들은 그와같은 역사적인 조건들의 종속 변수로 환원되어서도 안된다. 왜냐하면 루터가 분노하며도 전했고 응답했던 신학적인 성찰들은 단순히 그 시대에만 한정되는 것은 아니기 때문이다. 우리는 루터의 종교개혁을 연구할 때 그의 개인적인 심리적 투쟁과 당대의 역사적인 조건들, 이 두가지 사항을 동시에 고려해 넣어야한다. 이 글에서는 루터의 종교개혁을 추동시켰던 역사적인 동인들은 일단 논외로 하고 그의 실존적인 투쟁과 경험이 어떻게 종교개혁적인 신학의주제로 승화되었는 지에 초점을 맞출 것이다. 즉 그의 종교개혁신학의 실존론적인 성격을 밝혀 보려한다. 이 작업을 통해 우리는 루터의 종교개혁적인 사유가 인간의 개인적인 종교체험과 영성을 해체해 버리고 교리적인 진술과 합리적인 이해를 바탕으로 서술됨으로써 종교개혁신학의 교리 체계를 대변하는 이념이 아니라, 오히려 그것은 실존적인 경험을 역사적인 차원으로 승화시켜나감으로써 자유와 해방을 향한 사유임을 밝히려 한다.
Abstract
This paper concerns correlation between Luther’s reformation theology and his anfechtung. The spiritual life of Martin Luther is characterized by anfechtung, assault or anxiety of doubt and terror as to his standing before God. What is Luther’s anfechtung? What does his anfechtu ng impact to make his theology, that is, his understanding of the Gospel. It is important to examine how Luther’s anfechtung works in his theology. Because Luther’s anfechtung is energy and foundation for driving him to Scripture and compelling him to cling to God’s promise. This paper demonstrates that Luther’s anfechtung is essential concept for establishing his reformation theology . A psycho-analysist, Erik Erikson tried to examine Luther’s reformation in terms of psychoanalytic and historical method. Erikson considered Luther’s reformation as the result of an identity crisis, which owed to an oedipal struggle with his father. Scholars like Paul J. Reither, Hartmann Grisar, Heinich Denifle provided studies of Luther ’s reformation in perspective of psychoanalytical method. They asserted that Luther ’s theology is fundamentally based upon an ideological systematization of his anxious conscience. Second chapter of this paper tried to explicate that Luther’s anfechtung should be examined not in clinical or medical viewpoint but from theological reflection. Third chapter discusses the historical background of Luther’s anfechtung in relation to late medieval mysticism and nominalism, which impacted to intensify Luther’s trials. Chapter four investigates the process of how Luther overcomes his anfechtung, concentrating the biblical exegesis. In conclusion, this paper will suggest theological significance of Luther’s anfechtung, attempting to relate the meaning of Luther’s anfechtung to Korean context, church and Christians.
