창조 신앙은 기독교 신앙고백의 가장 본질적인 핵심 요소들 가운데 하나이다. 이러한 기독교의 창조교리(the Doctrine of Creation)에 있어 그것의 본질적인 성격에 대한 신학적인 이해에 대하여 기독교회는 고대 교회 교부들로부터 여러 정통개혁주의 신학자들과 다양한 신앙고백서들에 이르기까지 전통적으로 ‘무로부터의 창조’(creatio ex nihilo)가 성경적인 참된 교리임을 명확하게 인식하고 가르쳐 왔다. 그러나 최근에 창조에 대한 이러한 전통적인 이해가 전혀 비성경적일 뿐만 아니라 신학적으로도 심대한 왜곡과 더불어 수많은 난점을 제공하는 원천적인 근거가 되고 있다는 공격적인 주장이 다양한 관점에서 점증하고 있다. 이러한 신학적 경향은 비단 교의학(조직신학) 분야뿐만 아니라 현대 성경신학, 교리사, 그리고 과학신학의 등 여러 분야에서 전통적인 ‘무로부터의 창조’(Creatio ex nihilo) 교리를 거부하면서 ‘[초기] 혼돈으로부터의 창조’(Creation out of Chaos)를 주장하는 것으로 나타난다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 최근의 창조 교리와 관련하여 심각한 신학적인 논쟁들을 염두에 두면서, 전통적인 ‘무로부터의 창조’(creatio ex nihilo) 교리를 거부하는 최근의 여러 신학적 경향들을 다각도로 분석하면서, 특히 이 교리와 관련한 현대적인 신학적 논쟁점들을 ‘성경신학적 관점’ 및 ‘교리사적 관점’에서 집중적으로 살펴봄으로써 기독교 신학에 있어 ‘무로부터의 창조’ 교리가 가지는 성경적, 신학적 정당성과 적절성에 대하여 재조명해 보고자 한다.
Abstract
The biblical belief on creation is one of the essential factors in the Christian confession of faith. In this doctrine of creation, traditionally, its essential theological concept has been understood as ‘creation out of nothing’(creatio ex nihilo) from the ancient church Fathers to the various orthodox Reformed confessions of faith. Recently, however, there are many theologians who rejects and attacks the traditional doctrine of ‘creation out of nothing’(creatio ex nihilo) as a non-biblical and theologically distorted understanding from various theological disciplines. That is to say, many theologians who belong to not only contemporary dogmatics(systematic theology) but also biblical studies, doctrinal historical studies, and natural science/scientific theological studies, assert that the proper understanding of biblical/theological understanding is not the traditional doctrine of ‘Creation out of Nothing’(creatio ex nihilo) but ‘Creation out of Chaos’. Therefore, considering such a very significant contemporary theological controversies on the doctrine of creation, this study tries to critically analyze the views and assertions which reject the traditional doctrine of ‘Creation out of Nothing’(creatio ex nihilo) and discern its biblical and theological validity and appropriateness in the perspectives of biblical studies and doctrinal historical studies.
