동성애에 대한 생리의학적 연구동향 분석과 기독교 교육적 고찰

초록

동성애 논란의 핵심은 동성애가 선천적으로 타고난 정상적 성애의 일종인지 아닌지에 있다. 동성애의 선천성을 밝히기 위해서는 생리의학적 연구에 기반한 과학적 증거가 반드시 필요하다. 동성애를 죄라고 말씀하는 성경의 계시를 진리로 따르는 기독교는 현재 국내는 물론 전세계적인 동성애 관련 논쟁의 중심에 서 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 동성애의 선천성에 관련된 생리의학적 연구의 실체와 그 연구동향에 관련된 구체적 보고는 기독교계에서 찾아보기 힘들다. 이에 따라 필자는 본 논문을 통해서 동성애의 생리의학적 연구 및 그 동향을 문헌 조사 및 정량적 연구 방법으로 분석하고 그에 대한 기독교 교육적 의의를 제시하였다. 특히 본 논문은 다음과 같은 몇 가지 사실을 밝혔다. 첫째, 동성애가 선천적 정상 성애임을 분명하게 지지하는 생리의학적 연구 결과는 아직까지 보고되지 않았다. 둘째, 동성애에 대한 생리의학적 연구는 1900년대 중반 이후 꾸준히 증가하였으나, 특히 1970년대 중후반과 2000년을 전후한 시기에 특이적으로 증가하는 현상을 보인다. 그리고 이 두 번의 연구 증가는 동성애 지지자들의 정치적인 압력이 작용한 결과로 보인다. 한 가지는 미국 정신의학회의 DSM의 리스트에서 동성애를 제외한 것이며, 다른 한 가지는 1993년 차별금지법을 포함한 미국의 종교자유보호법의 제정에 있다. 셋째, 동성애 지지자들의 각종 사회-정치적 압력 행사는 동성애의 선천성에 대한 논리적 한계가 있음에도 ‘과학적’이라는 프레임으로 이슈화하여 정당성을 확보하려는데 있다. 요컨대, 동성애가 생리의학적으로 선천적이라는 과학적인 증거가 없음에도 불구하고 이를 만회하기 위한 동성애 지지자들의 전략이 있다는 것이고, 이에 대비하기 위해서 교회는 동성애에 대한 올바른 기독교적 가치를 확립하기 위해 하나님의 말씀에 근거한 교육적 노력을 해야만 한다는 것이다.

Abstract

The master key issue of homosexuality is whether homosexuality is a normal kind of innate sexual directivity, or not. To prove the innateness of homosexuality, scientific evidence based on bio-medical research is necessarily required. Christianity, which follows the biblical revelation to affirm homosexuality as sin, stands at the center of homosexuality-related controversy in domestic as well as worldwide. For all that, in the christian field, it is very hard to find any specific report about bio-medical researches and its research trends which are related with homosexuality innateness. In this paper, I analyze the bio-medical researches and its trends to study homosexuality through literature review and quantitative research methods, and finally propose Christian educational significance to them. Particularly, this article reveals several facts as follows. First, the results of bio-medical studies that clearly support homosexuality as a normal sexual directivity have not been reported yet. Second, bio-medical research for homosexuality has been steadily increasing since the mid-1900s. However, it has been observed to increase dramatically in the mid- to late-1970s and around 2000. Interestingly, these two increasing patterns seem to be the result of the political pressure of homosexual supporters. One is that homosexuality was excluded from the DSM list of the American Psychiatric Association, and the other is in the enactment of the American Religious Freedom Act in 1993, including Anti-Discrimination Act. Third, various social and political pressures of homosexual supporters are attempting to secure their own legitimacy by framing false claims that homosexuality is inherently normal. In summary, despite the lack of scientific evidences that homosexuality is physiologically innate, to compensate this, homosexual supporters might have taken a strategy. Therefore, to protest for this, the church must make an educative effort based on the biblical Word to establish the proper and right perspective of christian for homosexuality.
