“제네바 예배모범”에 나타난 칼빈의 예배 개혁 신학과 실천적 의미 연구

수많은 호칭 가운데 “종교개혁자”라는 호칭이야말로 칼빈의 생존 당시 칼빈 본인과 주변 사람들이 그를 평가하며 불렀던 가장 일반적이며 칼빈의 삶에 합당한 명칭 가운데 하나였다. 칼빈이 회복하고자 한 기독교의 참된“종교”란 당시 로마 교황주의자들의 미신적 의식들이 파괴해 놓은 교회 안에서의 바른 경건이었으며 이 경건의 가장 중요한 요소 가운데 하나가 곧 예배였다. 본 논문의 목적은 칼빈의 그의 종교개혁의 개요를 보여주는 대표적인 저작인 『기독교강요』와 “교회 개혁의 필요성”, 그리고 관련 주석들을 중심으로 칼빈이 당시 로마 교황주의의 예전(禮典)을 어떤 점에서 비판하고 있으며, 또 바른 예배의 개혁을 위해 칼빈이 견지했던 신학적 원리들은 무엇이었는지 정리하고, 그 원리를 따라 칼빈이 제안한 예배 모범에서 찾을 수 있는 실천적 의의는 무엇인지 규명하는 것이다. 칼빈은 당시 로마 교황주의자들이 예배를 하나님의 영광을 찬탈한 우상 숭배적 의식으로 전락시켰다고 비판한다. 이는 그들이 인간적인 전통을 무분별하게 삽입하고서 이런 타락한 의식이 마치 구원의 조건인 듯이 교회의 권위와 사제 위계질서 체제(Hierarchy of Priests)를 통해 강요했기 때문이다. 칼빈이 개혁하여 실현하고자 한 바른 예배는 하나님께만 영광을 돌리고 하나님께서 말씀하신 대로 시행되고, 반드시 구체적인 삶에서 나타나는 경배로 나아가는 예배였다. 칼빈은 이런 바른 예배는 반드시 그리스도의 십자가의 은혜로 말미암아 이루어진 구원의 복음에 기초를 두어야 한다고 주장하며 이를 위해 모든 예배 순서 가운데 복음의 진리가 뚜렷이 선포되고 드러나야 하며 말씀의 진리가 예배의 핵심 주제가 되어야 함을 예배 개혁의 원리로 삼았다. 칼빈은 이런 예배 개혁의 원리를 바탕으로 참다운 예배를 실제적으로 회복하기 위해 그의 제네바 예배 모범에서 말씀 중심의 예배, 불필요한 순서와 요소를 배제한 단순한 예배, 그리고 섬김과 나눔이 뒤따르는 예배를 제안하고 실천하려 했다.
Abstract
Among a lot of titles, "the Reformer" is one of the most suitable titles of John Calvin. The foremost issue of Calvin's idea of religious reformation was the true Christian piety, which had been deformed by the superstitious rituals of the Roman Church. Calvin thus counted the restoration of the worship of God as the most important task for the Christian piety. The purpose of this study is to illustrate the meanings of the principles and practices of Calvin's ideas of reformation worship. To illustrate Calvin's theological principles, this paper examines Calvin's Institutes(1559), the Necessity of Church Reformation (1543) with his commentaries for this purpose, and analyses his criticism of the Roman Church in this respect. Calvin criticizes that the Roman Church had robbed God of His glory by imposing many human traditions in the worship of God which should be obeyed for salvation in their hierarchical system of priests. However, according to Calvin, the right worship of God can be restored by the clear proclamation the salvation by the grace of Christ's cross, and sincere commitment to the Gospel in life. For Calvin, therefore, plain and clear manifestation of the Gospel in worship service, and the service in daily life are the key points of the reformation of worship. This paper then examines "the Form of Prayers and Song of the Church in Geneva" (1543) in oder to manifest how Calvin endeavored to realize his principles of reformation worship in his ministry in Geneva. Calvin proposed and attempted to establish of the true worship of God in Geneva. Notable features of his proposal of the worship service in Geneva reflect his principles of the reformation of the worship of God: The Word of God should take the center of the worship, unnecessary and superstitious human elements should be eliminated for the simple worship, and service and fellowship should be followed worship in life.
