이 논문의 방법론은 2008년에 출판된 저자의 이전 연구에 기초하고 있다(“The Strategic Arrangement of Royal Psalms in Books IV-V,” WTJ 70).

Abstract

The goal of this study is to investigate the central message of Ps 132 in the final shape of the Psalter. The methodology of this paper is based upon my previous study which was published in 2008 (“The Strategic Arrangement of Royal Psalms in Books IV-V,” WTJ 70). As with the strategic arrangement of royal psalms in Books I-III (Pss 2, 72, 89), Ps 132 as a royal psalm is strategically located at its current position in order to impart a special message about the Davidic covenant. Among the royal psalms, the theme of the Davidic covenant is most prominent in Ps 89 and Ps 132. Both psalms share such key words as berit, shaba, and mashiah explicitly unlike other royal psalms. The focus of this paper is laid on the movement of the theme of the Davidic covenant from Ps 89 to Ps 132. The changes of the mood between these psalms play an important role in identifying the message of Ps 132 in the final shape of the Psalter. The voice of lament in Ps 89 is gone in Ps 132. Yahweh dethrones the Davidic king in Ps 89 but He enthrones him in Ps 132. The crown of the anointed is defiled in Ps 89:39 but his crown “will shed its luster” in Ps 132:18. The changes of the mood in Ps 132 reflect the resurgence of the messianic hope in Israel in the postexilic period after the people returned from exile. This study will show that the strategic placement of Ps 132 indicates the hope of the Davidic covenant did not evaporate in the air in Ps 89 as Gerald Wilson argues. This interpretation will lead to a radical revision of Wilson’s view on the editorial motivation of the final shape of the Psalms.
