본 논문은 벨기에 신앙고백서 37조(“최후심판”)의 증거 본문을 신약에서 찾고 37조의 종말론을 분석하는 것을 목표로 한다. 증거 본문으로 추정되는 신약의 본문을 주해하는 접근을 시도한 결과 다음과 같은 결론에 이르렀다. 첫째, 신앙고백서는 재림의 시기를 구원 역사의 완성이라는 관점에서 이해하며, 이는 복음서 전승(예, 마 24:14; 눅 21:24), 로마서 11:25-27, 베드로후서 3:9-10, 계시록 10:10-11의 이해를 반영한다. 둘째, 예수께서 재림하시는 모습에 대한 진술은 복음서 전승(막 13:26; 눅 21:27), 사도행전 1:9-11, 바울 서신(살전 4:14-17; 살후 1:7), 계시록 1:7을 종합하는 것으로 보인다. 셋째, 재림의 목적은 최후심판과 새 창조을 연결하는 본문을 토대로 한다(예, 벧후 3:10-13; 계 6:12-14; 20:11; 21:1). 넷째, 재림의 순간에 나타날 현상(예, 천사의 나팔소리, 몸의 변화)은 데살로니가전서 4:13-18, 고린도전서 15:51-52에 근거하는 것으로 보인다. 다섯째, 최후심판의 기준과 효과와 관련해서 신앙고백서는 행위에 따른 심판을 강조한다(예, 마 25:31-46; 롬 2:6; 살후 2:6-7). 신앙고백서에서 최후심판의 내용은 신자들에게 위로가 되며, 이는 데살로니가후서 1:6-12와 같은 본문의 의도와 일치한다(예, 고전 1:7-9; 참고. 빌 1:6; 딤후 1:12). 여섯째, 최후심판의 결과인 형벌과 보상 역시 신약 전체에 흐르는 중요한 이슈다(예, 계 2:10). 특히 신앙고백서는 하늘법정의 장면을 반복해서 내포한다(예, 예, 마 10:32-33; 눅 12:8; 계 3:5). 신앙고백서의 마지막은 재림을 소망하는 계시록의 내용을 떠올린다(계 22:12, 17, 20-21). 마지막으로, 벨기에 신앙고백서 37조는 특정 본문 전체를 사용하기보다는 재림과 최후심판을 포함하는 여러 본문을 종합하는 방식으로 증거 본문을 활용한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to investigate proof-texts and analyze the eschatology of Belgic Confession Article 37 (“The Last Judgment”). First, Article 37 understands the time of Jesus' second coming as the consummation of redemptive history, which is evidenced by Matthew 24:14, Luke 21:24, Romans 11:25-27, 2 Peter 3:9-10, and Revelation 10:10-11. Second, the form of returning Jesus Christ is reflected in Mark 13:26, Luke 21:27, Acts 1:9-11, 1 Thessalonians 4:14-17, 2 Thessalonians 1:7, and Revelation 1:7. Third, the purpose of the second coming in Article 37 is associated with the texts that link the last judgment with the new creation (e.g., 2 Pet 3:10-13; Rev 6:12-14; 20:11; 21:1). Fourth, what will happen to all humans at the second coming echoes 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and 1 Corinthians 15:51-52. Fifth, God's verdict will be based on how people have lived (e.g., Matt 25:31-46; Rom 2:6; 2 Thess 2:6-7; Rev 2:10). His vindication for the faithful is intended to encourage them (e.g., 2 Thess 1:6-12; cf. 1 Cor 1:7-9; Phil 1:6; 2 Tim 1:12), recalling the eschatological hope in Revelation 22:12, 17, 20-21. In particular, the heavenly court of law, which plays an significant role in Article 37, is seen in the judicial settings of the New Testament (e.g., Matt 10:32-33; Luke 12:8; Rev 3:5). Last, Article 37 is most likely to make use of proof texts by combining related texts rather than by selecting a specific passage.
