벨직신앙고백서, 하이델베르크 교리문답서, 그리고 웨스트민스터 신앙고백서의 성경 증거구절의 사용 비교: 종말론을 중심으로

초록

거듭난 성도가 성령님께서 영감 시키신 하나님의 기록된 말씀인 성경을 제대로 읽으면 삼위 하나님을 더 신뢰하게 되고, 성령님의 조명으로써 그리스도인은 성경의 권위를 더 신뢰하게 된다(벨직신앙고백서 5[1561]). 그런데 신앙과 삶의 표준인 성경을 요약한 신앙고백서의 증거구절이 정확하지 않는 경우가 더러 있다. 이 이유로 신앙고백서의 여백 본문에 표기된 증거구절이 정확한지, 그리고 명시적인 성경 증거구절이 아니더라도 어떤 본문이 암시되었는가를 교의학 즉 조직신학적으로 연구한 바 있다. 또한 구약학자가 이런 신앙고백서의 증거구절이 타당한지의 여부를 성경 주해적으로 검토한 경우도 간혹 있다. 하지만 다소 의아하게도 신약학자의 관련 연구는 찾아보기 어려운 실정인데, 이런 현상은 신앙고백서의 교리가 대체로 구약성경보다는 신약성경과 더 긴밀히 연관되어 있다는 사실을 염두에 둔다면 의아하지 않을 수 없다. 이런 연구의 미진한 틈을 염두에 둔 채, 이 글의 목적은 역사적 개혁교회에 매우 중요한 신앙고백서들인 벨직신앙고백서, 하이델베르크 교리문답서(1563), 그리고 웨스트민스터 신앙고백서(1646)의 성경 증거구절의 사용에 나타난 여러 특징을 성경주해를 통해 서로 비교하고 분석하는 것이다. 각 신앙고백서마다 증거구절이 매우 방대하기 때문에, 여기서 편의상 연구의 범위를 위의 세 신앙고백서의 종말론으로 한정하여 집중적으로 분석한다.

Abstract

When Christians read the Bible properly, they will trust in God and through the illumination of the Holy Spirit they will believe the authority of the Bible (Belgic Confession 5 [1561]). However, there are cases where the proof texts in the confessions that summarize the Bible are inaccurate. For this reason, systematic theological studies have been conducted to determine whether the proof tests indicated in the margin text of the confession are accurate and what texts are implied even if there are no explicit verses of the Bible. In addition, Old Testament scholars have reviewed the validity of the proof passages through exegesis. However, it is difficult to find related studies by New Testament scholars, and this phenomenon is surprising considering the fact that the doctrine of the confession is more closely related to the New Testament than the Old Testament. The purpose of this article is to compare and analyze the characteristics of the use of biblical proof texts in the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism (1563), and the Westminster Confession of Faith (1646) through biblical exegesis. For convenience, the scope of the study is limited to the eschatology of the three confessions of faith.
