Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze service learning program operation case which supports systematically to university students practicing various knowledge donation activities in the university and to explore qualitatively in various experiences during service learning activity done by them. To do it, a procedural model for service learning conducted in ‘B’ university was analyzed. In addition, an educational meaning was explored in knowledge donation activity conducted by university students by analyzing qualitatively what they have been experienced through the activity outcomes and the participation observations of six students who joined this activity. From this study, a procedural model of service learning operations conducted in ‘B’ university at the first semester of 2016 was taken and educational implications of entire operation case were deducted from them by doing both a qualitative analysis on the outcomes of students who joined ‘A’ curriculum service learning and a researcher’s participation observation. Research results showed that there were a preparation stage, a proceeding stage and an evaluation stage. An activity plan, a weekly activity report, a written oath, an assay, a self-assessment format and so on were provided as supporting elements for each stage. Moreover, it was confirmed that persistent self-assessment and self-reflection of students were made during the activity. Through the analysis of activity outcomes, three meanings were driven. First, a fear to the challenge and a start to expectation. Second, growth together. Third, a consideration and a concession. As a result of the case analysis of service learning for university students’ knowledge donation activity, it was confirmed that students experienced the recognition change to tends to focus on and understand other people and a local community through donation experience of their major knowledge to be able to being donated to the local community.
