서비스러닝 사례 분석을 통한 활성화 방안 모색 - 한국・일본 대학을 중심으로-

Abstract

This research is to introduce and analyze the successful service learning systems and discuss the potential application to domestic universities. Service learning system is a new experience-based educational model that combines knowledge learning in class and an on-the-field voluntary service for local communities. It is a very meaningful learning experience because students can get the value of helping others and deeper learning through practical education in the field. However, this system is being used in very limited schools in Korea and Japan. To make this system more common and easily accessible, it is necessary to first have the relevant departments. A service learning system should be compliant with the current curriculum so that it can be implemented effectively, and self-reflection time should be placed in between each activity. Additionally, it may be necessary to establish a major-linked service learning model in various majors. Service learning in university education for students can create an experience-based educational model that serves the community with deeper knowledge in one’s major. In addition, through this teacher-learner-community, linked learning can create not only the opportunity for deeper knowledge for students, but also help the community develop its own knowledge. Students who participate in service learning have the opportunity to think deeply about their career paths through volunteer work. Furthermore, it will not only serve as an opportunity to increase self-efficacy, but will also help to develop community spirit and social responsibility. Therefore, service learning activities linked to majors are considered essential to both students and the community.
