그림책에 나타난 상상친구 연구 : 그림책 『알도』와 『내 친구 제시카』를 중심으로

본 연구는 상상 친구를 소재로 한 두 권의 그림책을 분석한 것이다. 상상 친구란 이행대상의 하나로서 현실세계에 실제로 존재하지는 않으나 아이들의 마음속에 친구로 살아있는 존재로서, 인지 및 정서발달을 돕는 역할을 한다. 연구대상 그림책은 John Burningham의 『알도』와 Kevin Henkes의 『내 친구 제시카』이다. 이 두 권의 그림책은 상상 친구를 어린이의 시각에서 잘 담아내고 있다. 연구 결과, 두 작품은 비슷하면서도 서로 다른 상상 친구를 보여주고 있음을 볼 수 있었다. 첫째, 두 그림책에 등장하는 주인공의 특징은 비슷하면서도 달랐다. 둘째, 두 그림책에 등장하는 상상 친구는 같으면서도 다른 특징을 가지고 있었다. 셋째, 상상 친구의 소멸을 다루는 방법이 비슷하면서도 달랐다. 두 그림책에는 상상 친구와 함께 성장하는 어린이를 잘 그려내고 있다. 그러므로 유아의 심리를 적절하게 표현한 그림책은 유아들에게는 공감을, 어른들에게는 유아에 대한 이해를 높이는 기회를 제공할 것이다.
Abstract
This study is an analysis of two picturebooks of the ‘Imaginary Companions.’. Imaginary Companions is a living being as a friend, but not actually exist in the real world, the heart of children as one of the target fulfillment, serves to help the cognitive and emotional development. The subject of studies are two picturebooks, 『Aldo』 by John Burningham and 『Jessica』by Keven Henkse. I could infer from the study that two books are similar in one aspect, but different in another. You can show the Imaginary Cimpanions through the perspectives of a child in these two books. I could infer from the study that two books are showing a similar Imiginary Companions. But it seems also discovered different aspect. First, main characters in two picturebooks have very similar but different characteristics. Second, two Imaginary Companions have very similar but different characteristics. Third, the ways of Imaginary Companions’ disappearing are very similar but different. Both of two picturebooks portray the process of growing children in their early childhood by dint of Imaginary Companions. I conclude, the picturebooks describing child’s psychology in early childhood provide sympathy with young children, at the same time, enhance deep understanding of their children, to the adults.
