Abstract
This study closely examined the literature to date on the possibility of blockchain utilization, and specifically examined the realm of potential use of blockchain for higher education in Korea and major issues that might arise if it was used. Major findings of this study were as followed; First, the applicable scope of blockchain was divided into three areas: subject field, administrative field, and industry-university cooperation field. In the subject area of higher education applicability, it was emphasized that instructor-centered education reduced student learning motivation due to insufficient design of personalized learning process. Blockchain dealt with social issues such as academic background forgery, qualification impersonation, background verification, and thesis forgery, which emerged as social problems in the administrative field of higher education. It was proposed that academic information management was possible by using blockchain technology, the ledger and electronic voting system. In the industrial-educational cooperation field, it was pointed out that many industries did not expand their demand due to lack of communication with higher education institutions. Second, we looked at the issues that needed to be resolved for the use of blockchain technology in the field of higher education. Issues such as privacy protection, government regulation, and lack of national social awareness, which were preventing the scalability of blockchain, could be pointed out. In conclusion, this paper presented implications of the possibility of value creation through industry-academia-linked activities centered on projects based on what they have learned through collaborative learning.
