코헬렛이 경험한 세상은 불합리하고, 부조리한 세상으로 삶을 경험했으며이것을 무익, 공허, 숨이라는 헤벨( הבל )이란 단어를 사용한다. 그럼에도 불구하고 그의 삶에 대해서 기쁨과 즐거움을 잃지 않는다. 왜냐하면 삶은 하나님이 인간에게 주신 선물로 이해했기 때문이다. 그렇기 때문에 코헬렛에게 있어서 세상을 사는 동안 젊음은 중요하며, 최선을 다해 삶을 살 것을 명령한다. 젊음이 중요한 것은 세상은 빠르게 지나가기 때문이다. 결국 코헬렛은 인간의 삶은 부정적이기보다는 긍정적인 삶으로 의식의 전환된다. 코헬렛은 삶은 신비요 수수께끼와도 같은 것이다. 해 아래서 살아가는 인간의 삶이 부정적으로 보여질 수 있지만 그것 역시 하나님이 인간에게주신 선물이고 몫으로 이해한다면 삶을 기뻐하면서 적극적으로 살아갈 것을요구한다. 창조주 하나님을 경외하는 삶은 허무와, 무익한 부정적 의미의“헤벨”적 삶이 아니라 “헤벨”이 극복된 긍정적 의미의 삶으로 살게 된다.
Abstract
Qoheleth expresses the negative reality of life. He sees the world as irrational, inconsistent and unfair. Therefore, Qoheleth confesses that the world he experiences as Hebel: useless, empty, vain, and like vapour. In midst of his pessimism in regards to the reality of life, Qoheleth argues that life is a gift from God. He emphasizes that we must enjoy life because time passes by so quickly. Qoheleth’s purpose in writing is not to have the readers focus on the negativity of this world, but to stress the fact that they should be thankful to God for the gift of life. Qoheleth urges to the youth of Israel that they should enjoy their life and work which God apportions to them. It is clear that Qoheleth’s focus is on the affirmative rather than the negative view of human life. Qoheleth comes to us as a realist, but one who never loses sight of the fact that life is God-given and for our benefit. For these reasons, it is important to state that the term “Hebel” in Qoheleth has a distinctive function and meaning. It conveys the notion that life is enigmatic, mysterious, and that there are many unanswered and unanswerable questions. The person of faith recognizes this fact, but moves forward positively to claim and to enjoy the life and work which God apportions.
