요코미쓰 리이치의 『기계』일고찰 -4인칭 소설로의 가능성을 중심으로-

Abstract

With a focus on Machine by Yokomitsu Riichi, this article studies the potential as a 'fourth person' novel in the novel with the meaning of 'fourth person' novel and based on Jungian psychological theories. First, the 'fourth person' novel examined in 「Junsui Shosetsu Ron」by Yokomitsu exceeded the boundary of person such as first and third persons. The novel made it possible to 'create a possible world' beyond the present and to confirm that this was 'the self who watches the self'. Second, this article examined how the plot of Machine developed and the stream of consciousness in the protagonist 'myself'. Finally, this article confirmed the potential to 'fourth person' novels with a focus on the issue that 'no one knows which side of 'me' is 'my real self' by regarding 'the self who watches the self' as meaning of conscious and unconscious in analytical psychology. 'Fourth person novels' have yet to be settled, but have infinite potentials because they will become a new methodology for novel creation to bring together various novel methodologies such as unified, multidimensional, and objective descriptions.
