이 논문은 교호 6년 6, 7월에 에도(江戸)시대 츠시마번(対馬藩) 두 명의 유신(儒臣) 수야마 토츠안(陶山訥庵)과 아메노모리 호슈(雨森芳洲) 사이에서 주고받은 서신을 통하여 두 사람의 교류를 살펴보는 것이다. 교호 6년은 츠시마에파견된 조선의 도해역관사절(渡海譯官使節) 65명 전원이 가담한 인삼 불법 밀거래가 발각되는 사건이 일어난 해이다. 원래 인삼 밀거래를 저지르면 사형을비롯한 엄별에 처하게 되어 있으나, 여러 사정으로 이 번 밀거래를 저지른 사절단 전원은 면죄가 되었다. 이 때 토츠안과 호슈는 서로 면죄와 엄벌이라는 정반대 의견을 제기하여 격론을 벌인다. 토츠안의 관대한 처치를 주장하는 의견이채택 되자 호슈는 격분하여 조선방좌역(朝鮮方佐役)을 사퇴하기에 이룬다. 반면, 이 두 사람의 대립이 일어나기 이틀 전, 호슈는 장남에게 호주승계 시 유신이라는 가업을 면하기를 원하는 뜻을 번(藩)에 올리는 일을 토츠안에게 상담하여협조를 의뢰하게 된다. 토츠안은 호슈의 의뢰를 전면적으로 받아드려 협조하여,호슈는 이에 더할 나위 없는 고마움을 표하여 전적으로 토츠안을 신뢰한다. 같은 시기에 두 사람 사이에 일어난 대립과 협조의 모습을 살펴보며 호슈에게지대한 영향을 준 것으로 생각 되는 토츠안이 격분하는 호슈에게 관대한 이해와아낌없는 협조를 배푼 사실을 볼 수가 있었다.
Abstract
This paper is a study on rerationship with two Confucianism scholar, TotsuanSuyama and Hosyu Amenomori, expecialy in 1721. This year, illegal trade of ginsengis discovered. 65 people all interpreter mission was sent to Tsushima was complicitin the illegal trade. Originally, to be sentenced to severe punishment, suck as deathpenalty after the illegal trade. Mission that the illegal trade of this time, due tocircumstances was exonerated. Totsuan and Hosyu signed a heated debate presentsthe opinions of the opposite of severe punishment exonerated each other at this time. Opinion to claim generous treatment of Totsuan was adopted, Hosyu declined theposition of versus Cheosen Secretary Assistant. On the other hand, two days beforethe conflict of two people takes place, Hosyu had requested the understanding andsupport concerning succession to a family in Totsuan. Totsuan acceptanced acrossthe board the request of Hosyu, and Hosyu was trustful Totsuan represents a deepappreciation. We can se a concert with the conflict that took place between twopeople at the same time. And We can see Totsuan's gecerous figure to Hosyu
