초록

English has slowly and surely become an integral part of the South Asian society and culture. As a result of its wide use in different walks of human life, English came in contact with a variety of languages and cultures in the Asian continent Consequently, it developed unique features and characteristics that contributed in the evolution of a distinct South Asian variety of English. The English used in these countries has been undergoing a process of ‘nativisation’, which is identifiable in both the written and spoken modes. The cultural noetics of English in the Indian context can be seen as a part of this process. The first part of the paper briefly mentions the link between language and culture and how culture leaves an indelible mark on a language. The second part of the paper is an attempt to trace the reflections of Indian culture in English, with illustrative examples drawn from Indian novels in English.
