초록
This study has examined Korean Sign Language(KSL) based on the criteria for verbal classifiers in spoken language. The verbal classifiers in KSL can be said to partly agree with this criteria. In sign language, classifier handshapes have broader applications than classifiers in spoken language, as in word formation and productive expression. Particularly, the parameter of “shape” is central, in reflecting how deaf people perceive objects in the world and express the perceived information in language. As a result, in classifiers in KSL, the main parameter of classifying objects was shape of the object. This study limited its scope to verbal classifiers among classifier types. Further study is needed on the other types such as numeral classifier, genitive classifier, and noun classifier.
