청년층, 중장년층, 노년층의 대화 특성 비교: 화용 능력을 중심으로

Comparison of Conversation Characteristics of Young, Middle-Aged, and Older Adults: Focusing on the Ability to Pragmatics

초록

본 연구는 연령대별 노화로 인한 일반 성인의 대화 특성을 화용적 측면에서 비교하고자 하였다. 연구대상은 청년층, 중장년층, 노년층이 각 22명씩 총 66명이 참여하였다. 연구 절차는 '한림 대화 및 화용 평가 프로토콜'을 사용하여 진행되었으며, 대화 특성을 파악하기 위해 대화 참여 지표, 대화 주제 운용 지표, 대화 방해 지표를 측정하였다. 연구 결과 대화 참여 지표측면에서 대화 차례 빈도는 청년층보다 중장년층에서 더 높은 수행력이 나타났다. 대화 주제 운용 측면에서 전체 주제 수가 청년층보다 노년층에서 더 높은 수행력이 나타났으며, 주제 당 대화 차례 빈도는 중장년층보다 노년층이 더 낮은 수행력이 나타났다. 주제 유지율은 청년층보다 노년층이 수행력이 낮았고 적절한 주제 변경율은 청년층보다 노년층이 더 높았으며, 부적절한 주제 변경 비율은 노년층이 청년층이나 중장년층에 비해 더 높은 수행력이 나타났다. 결론적으로 대화 참여 지표와 대화 주제 운용 지표를 통해 중장년층부터 노화로 인한 의사소통 결함을 파악할 수 있었으며, 그 결과 나이가 들수록 상대적으로 대화 참여도가 높았지만 일관된 주제에 대한 대화를 유지하는 능력은 감소함을 알 수 있었다.

Abstract

This study tried to compare the conversation characteristics of normal adults due to aging by age group in pragmatic aspect. A total of 66 young, middle-aged, and older adults participated in the study. The research procedure used the ' the Hallym Conversation & Pragmatic Assessment Protocol'. To identify the conversation characteristics, we measured the conversation participation indexes, the conversation topic manipulation indexes, and the conversational breakdown indexes. As a result, in terms of conversation participation, the frequency of turn-taking showed significantly higher performance among middle-aged adults than young adults. In terms of conversation topic manipulation, the total number of topics showed significantly higher performance among older adults than young adult. The frequency of conversation per topic showed significantly less performance among older adults than middle-aged adults Total topic maintenance rate was significantly lower for older adults than for young adults. The appropriate topic change rate showed significantly higher performance for old-adult than for young adults. Inappropriate topic change rates showed significantly higher performance among old adults than young adults and middle-aged adults. In conclusion, we were able to identify communication defects caused by aging from middle-aged adults through the indexes of conversation participation and conversation topic manipulation. We were able to identify that as they grew older, they were relatively more participated in conversation, but their ability to maintain conversation on a consistent topic decreased.
