Abstract
This study aims to analyze research trends related to EduTech, represented by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robots, in the field of special education and to propose future-oriented educational directions to enhance the quality of special education. For this purpose, 70 studies published in domestic academic journals from 2009 to 2024 were selected. The analysis focused on publication year and journals, research topics and subjects, research types and methods, as well as research tools and intervention effects, systematically identifying trends in EduTech research. The key findings are as follows: First, research on EduTech has steadily increased since 2009, with a sharp rise in AI-related studies after 2020. Second, research topics were predominantly centered on robots and AI, with a focus on autism spectrum disorder as the primary target disability. Third, quantitative research methods, particularly experimental and literature studies, were the most commonly employed. Fourth, research tools such as intelligent robots, telepresence robots, and AI speakers were frequently utilized, showing positive effects on interaction, communication, learning engagement, and attitude improvement among participants. Based on these findings and previous studies, this study emphasizes the need for collaborative efforts between EduTech engineering experts and special education specialists to develop tailored tools. Additionally, it highlights the importance of conducting disability-specific research, strengthening the digital competencies of special education teachers, and developing parent education programs that connect school and home environments.
