Abstract
This study employed a mixed-methods approach to examine the effects of a Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) writing program, which is linked to the Korean language curriculum, on the writing skills of high school students with hearing impairments. The program was implemented for six high school students enrolled in a special education school for students with hearing impairments in Seoul. Quantitative data were analyzed using a single-group pretest-posttest design and statistically significant improvements were found in writing performance, the number of components in explanatory texts, and text quality. Qualitative data highlighted the program’s benefits and students’ growth in writing abilities. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of adapting the SRSD program for high school students with hearing impairments, integrating it into the curriculum for practical application, and providing career exploration opportunities through writing explanatory texts on various vocations.
