본 연구는 언어-내용 통합 수업을 위한 CALLA 모형 적용 방안에 대한 연구이다. 특히 CALLA 모형을 활용하여 중학교 사회 교과 기반 KSL 학습 한국어 수업을 설계하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 언어-내용 통합 수업을 위한 다양한 시도들을 선행연구를 중심으로 살펴보았고, 특히 CALLA 모형에 대해 상세히 살펴보았다. 이 모형은 북미 지역이나 우리의 영어 교육 분야에서는 학습 전략 교수를 위해 종종 활용되고 그 효과와 시사점을 논의한 연구들이 있었으나, 한국어교육 분야에서는 아직 많은 논의가 되지 않고 있다. 특히 아동과 청소년 대상 KSL 교실에서의 적용에 관한 연구는 아직 시작 단계에 머무르고 있는 것으로 파악되었다. 이에 본고에서는 중학교 KSL 학습자를 위한 한국어 수업을 CALLA 모형의 5단계 절차에 따라 설계해 보았다. 본 연구는 KSL 학습자의 학습 한국어 및 학습 전략 사용 능력 향상을 위해 내용 중심 교수법의 가장 널리 알려진 모형 중 하나인 CALLA 모형을 적용해 실제 교과 기반 한국어 수업 설계를 시도하였다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다.
Abstract
In this study, the author develops an alternative that applies the CALLA model for language-content integrated education. This study focuses especially on designing a syllabus for academic KSL based on social studies education in middle schools. To this end, the author reviews many previous studies that dealt with various experiments for content-language integrated education. Especially, the author provides in-depth discussions on the CALLA model because, in Korea, only a few studies have been done regarding applying this model in the KSL education area. This is in contrast to the situation in North America and the English language education field in Korea, where the model is applied widely for the purpose of devising teaching strategies, with many researchers discussing the results and implications of it. Thus, this study seeks to design a 5-staged middle school Korean language education program that applies the CALLA model. This class design would have meaningful contribution to KSL education in that it applies the CALLA model to the middle school KSL program that reflects the actual content of social studies education in middle schools.
