Contrastive Analysis, started with structuralism in the beginning of the last century, seeks the universals of individual languages on a theoretical level and tries to predict errors and to block the negative transfer that may result in errors, because language learners tend to transfer their native language system positively or negatively to target language. This kind of Contrastive Analysis may be defined as the early version of Contrastive Analysis. Today, the so-called corpus means digital data and enormous linguistic data can be processed with the help of computers, which was almost impossible before the advance of computers. This kind of Contrastive Analysis may be defined as the new version of Contrastive Analysis. From the late 1980s, expanding its area into language structure, cultural structure, the relation between language structure and mentality and language structure and human social structure, Contrastive Analysis has attracted our interests. Recently, it is applied to contrastive discourse and pragmatic analysis. Additionally, in the context of expanding the usage of corpus owing to computerization, corpus, including parallel corpus, facilitates the contrast of languages under investigation, enhances the development of translation theory and contributes to the promotion of foreign language education, taking up a new position in linguistics.
