The intent of this paper is to characterize accurately the differences between Spanish preterit forms and the Spanish present perfect form. My efforts break down the opposition into a variety of subtypes according to lexical verbs involved in many other factors including some purely contextual ones. I will consider some ambiguities among simple forms and compound forms, from an aspectual point of view. I shall proceed through a critical exposition of the major types related to present perfect form with various summaries and expanding interclides along the way. Finally I will summarize the aspectual definition of present perfect/preterit opposition and attendant phenomena.
