초록
This paper examines the epenthetic vowels of English loanwords in Hausa. The claim is that, in word-initial position, vowel epenthesis is used to break up disallowed consonant clusters when English foreign words are adopted into Hausa. The quality of epenthetic vowels is accounted for by the syllable contact law in Hausa loanwords. The quality of epenthetic vowels is different from that of regular vowels in acoustic analysis of the loans.
