Abstract

This research was to study the relationship between calling and organizational effectiveness - organizational commitment and turnover intention - among ROK Air force officers. Survey data from 351 military professional officers in ROK Air Force were analyzed with SEM(AMOS) to examine the relationship between calling and organizational effectiveness - organizational commitment and turnover intention - and also the mediating effects of moral duty and organizational identification within the relationship. In addition, group differences between the pilot group and the non-pilot group in the research model were examined by multi–group analysis in SEM. Results are as follows. First, calling correlated positively with moral duty, organizational identification, and organizational commitment, and negatively with turnover intention. Second, moral duty and organizational identification were found to partially mediate the relationship between calling and organizational commitment, but not with turnover intention. Third, for the group differences, calling had a direct effect on organizational commitment and turnover intention in the pilot group, but not at all in the non-pilot group. In addition, while in the pilot group moral duty and organizational identification partially meditated the relationship between calling and organizational commitment, in the non-pilot group they fully meditated the relationship between calling and organizational commitment. Regarding the calling-turnover intention relation, moral duty fully mediated this relation only in the non-pilot group. Implications, limitations and also directions for future research were discussed.
