Abstract
For a successful research on heart-mind, we have to return to philology from phenomenology. You do not ask a phenomenology on heart-mind, but ask the history of heart-mind. When we receive much recognition that philology precedes phenomenology, heart-mind can be described correctly. The most necessary point for us is not from philology to philosophy, but from philosophy to philology inversely. Where is heart-mind? When I asked westerners where 'mind' is, all men stand for their heads. I asked easterners where 'it'(maeum in Korean, xin in Chinese, kokoro in Japanese) is, all men stand for their hearts. But 'it' is usually translated with 'mind' as well. East and west think differently in this way. Heart includes ethics; head includes logic. East says heart; west says head. Therefore east is more ethical than west; west is more logical than east. Moral action is suitable for a brave man who practice his own courage all the time. When somebody is suffering from evil, the man who usually cultivates his heart-mind could help people without hesitation. It is called haoranzhiqi(vast morale) by Mencius. Here is the reason why eastern heart-mind leans toward heart. Moral action needs his/her body instead of head. As long as we are thinking, the child will be drowned. Practice is essential to ethics. According to Yangming's principle, knowledge without practice is not complete knowledge.
