발언된 언어의 목적과 효용의 관점으로 의례 언어를 이해하는 의례 언어연구는 구조-기능 방법론과 상징-문화 방법론으로 의례 언어의 수행(실행)과 실천의 특성을 발견할 수 있다. 기록된 의례문서에 관한 추상적 접근이 아니라 의례 안에서 실제로 발언 되는 언어실행과 실천의 행위를 강조하는 연구는 의례 언어와 실행의 행위를 분리하는 기존 의례 언어연구의 이원론적 관점을 극복할 수 있다. 실행과 실천의 의례 언어연구는 의례언어가 의례에 관한 이념적 정보를 제공하기 위해 어떤 것(something)을 서술하는 도구가 아니라, 어떤 것(something)을 성취하기 위해 실행과 실천한다는 것을 밝힌다. 이를 위해, 본 연구는 오스틴의 실행언어의 이론과 부르디외의 실천언어 이론으로 의례 안에서 발언 되는 언어의 실행과 실천의 효과를 설명하고자 한다. 실행과 실천의 의례 언어연구는 의례 언어를 단순히 의미와 가치를 서술(describe)하는 것으로 보는 관점에서 의례 언어를 통해 권력의 관계를 형성, 해체, 재형성하는 실행과 실천의 방식을 포용하는 의례 언어연구로 근본적인 방향전환을 해야 한다는 필요성과 당위성을 강조하고자 한다.
Abstract
Ritual language studied in terms of two methodologies: structure-functional methodology and symbol-cultural methodology help us to have an insight of what is said in ritual as ritual performing action, including the purposes and effects of what is said. By focusing on the performing actions such as utterance in the context of ritual rather than a speculation about written languages in a ritual text, a dualistic perspective on the language and the performing action in ritual language studies can be overcome. Ritual language is not just an instrument for describing informational ideas, but is performed in accomplishing the ends of the ritual operation. The effects of a performative utterance can be explained through the analysis of performance theory of J. L. Austin and practice theory of Pierre Bourdieu. The study of ritual language of performance and practice shows us a necessity of fundamental shift from looking at ritual language as the mere communication of meanings and values to the concerns with what ritual language do – not just what they describe, but the way of performance in which they construct, deconstruct and reconstruct power relationships.
