Abstract
Language has power. Language is what creates (realizes), performs and explains something. So, what about the Bible language? Indeed, does the Bible language (the Word of God) affect our lives (ethical or faithful implication) and not the text trapped in it, fulfill the Word of God (the kingdom of God) in us? It is because of the performance of the biblical language that it becomes a reality in our lives. Most of the biblical language is performative, rather than propositional language. Nevertheless, research on the meaning of the biblical text (the kingdom of God) in relation to the performance aspect of the biblical language and how to derive ethical (faithful or practical) implications in the life of believers seems to be insufficient. Therefore, this paper explores the use of insight (the performative act aspect only) of the speech act theory to study the biblical language of the kingdom and its ethical implications by comparing the propositional language and the performative language in the biblical text (language). This shows how the approaches of propositional language and of performative language to the exploration of the biblical language differ in terms of behavior in deriving the ethical implications of faith. It also suggests that this paper considers the performance aspect of the biblical language as a tool for dynamic interpretation of the biblical text. Thus, the performance approach of the biblical language shows how the biblical text asks readers (believers) to act and shows how the text should react to readers, with ethical (faithful) implications.
