『정신현상학』 <서론>[Einleitung]에 나타난 ‘즉자’, ‘참’ 그리고 ‘의식의 경험’에 대한 헤겔의 견해

이 글은 헤겔 『정신현상학』 <서론>[Einleitung]에 서술된 ‘즉자’, ‘의식’, ‘참’과 ‘참의 척도(尺度)’에 대한 헤겔의 견해를 통해 그의 인식론의 핵심내용을 소개하고 비판한다. 본격적인 논의에 앞서, 논의의 선행조건이 되는 독일어 Wahrheit가 우리말로 어떻게 번역되는 것이 옳은지를 검토하여 지금까지 대부분의 경우 ‘진리(眞理)’로 번역되어 온 이 용어는 특수한 경우에만 Wahrheit의 번역어로서 타당하다는 점을 제시한다. 이어서, 『정신현상학』 <서론>에서 서술된 헤겔의 인식론이 칸트의 실재론적 인식론과 어떠한 차이점이 있는지를 텍스트 분석을 통해 상세하게 드러내는 동시에, 그의 주장이 지니고 있는 문제점들, 특히 ‘즉자’와 ‘참(된 것)’의 척도에 대한 그의 주장이 안고 있는 문제점들을 드러내고 비판한다. 또한, 자연적 의식이 가장 저차적인 단계의 지(知)로부터 출발하여 자기의 지(知)가 지니고 있는 오류를 지속적으로 수정해 나감으로써 마침내는 가장 고차적이며 완성된 지(知)인 절대지, 즉 지(知)와 대상의 온전한 통일에 이를 수 있다는 헤겔의 주장은 그의 절대적 관념론의 입장에 서야만 정당화될 수 있다는 점을 밝힌다.
Abstract
This essay aims at elucidating the meaning of ‘the in itself’[das Ansich], ‘the true’[das Wahre], and ‘the experience of consciousness’[die Erfahung des Bewußtseins] in the Introduction [Einleitung] to Hegel‘s Phenomenology of Spirit (1807), and criticizing Hegel's epistemology. As a preliminary work for this purpose, it analyzes the various meanings of ’true‘[wahr] and ’truth‘[Wahrheit] in the ordinary language and sciences. Through this analysis we come to the conclusion that the word ’Jilly‘[진리(眞理)] is, except in special occasions, not adequate as a translation for ’the truth‘[Wahrheit]. Moreover, this essay aims at disclosing in detail, by way of analysis, how Hegel's epistemology in the Introduction to Phenomenology of Spirit is different from that of Kant. And the problematics of Hegels assertions, especially of 'the in itself'[das Ansich], 'the criterion for the True'[der Maßstab für das Wahre] are disclosed and criticized. The claim of Hegel that the natural consciousness [das natürliche Bewußtsein] starts from the lowest level of knowledge and through continual correcting one’s errors eventually reaches the absolute knowledge [das abolute Wissen], the highest and most perfect knowledge, namely the unification of knowledge and its object, could be justified only on the standpoint of his absolute idealism. But the justification for this claim stays problematic for us still.
