문명/야만, 지배/종속, 백인(구미인)/흑인(아프리카인)과 같은 이분법적 패러다임은 구미열강이 식민지를 개척하기 시작하면서 타국가, 타문화에 대한 차별을 정당화하는 논리로 사용되었다. 구미인들의 타자관 역시 이러한 식민주의적 논리의 연장선상에 있다고 볼 수 있다. 이들이 아프리카, 인도, 라틴아메리카 등에서 ‘비백인(유색인종)’을 차별하는데 아무런 양심의 가책을 느끼지 못했던 것도 필경 이 때문이리라. ‘식민화’는 이렇듯 ‘인종화’나 ‘비인간화’의 역설을 허용한다. 본고에서 우리는 이러한 취의(趣意) 하에 구미의 유일보편문화론이 갖는 문제점이 어디에 있는지를 식민주의적 타자관과 인종 문제를 연결시켜 비판적으로 논해보았다. ‘식민주의적 타자관’은 ‘타자론 일반’에서와 달리 피식민주체인 타자와 비대면적 명령으로 일관한다는 점에서, 이들 하위주체 그룹을 대화나 교류, 공감의 상대자로 전제하고 있지도 않다는 것이 본고의 결론이다. 그런데 설상가상으로 작금의 글로벌 자본주의는 과거의 식민주의, 제국주의보다 더 강력한 형태로 지구촌의 재식민화(recolonization)를 꾀하고 있다. 과거의 그들 식민적 욕망이 신자유주의적 탈영토화를 통해 신식민주의(new colonialism) 형태로 부활한 것이다. 글로컬 공공선(glocal public good)의 차원에서 세계화의 논리는 극복되어야 한다. 인권, 세계평화, 민주주의, 공공윤리와 같은 이념이 로컬문화를 기축(基軸)으로 해서 새롭게 논의되지 않으면 안 되는 이유 또한 여기에 있다.
Abstract
When western powers have pioneered colonies, the dichotomous paradigms as like civilization/barbarism, domination/subordination, White(Europeans and Americans)/Black(Africans) have been used as logic to justify their discrimination against foreign nations and cultures. Their viewpoint to others also can be on the extension of their this colonial logic. So for that they can hardly feel any guilty conscience to discriminate against ‘non-white’. Like this, the colonization is allowing the paradoxes of ethnicization and dehumanization. In this article, we intended to discuss on the critical view point to the problem of the universal culture(l’uni-verse-culture) related with the colonial viewpoint to others and racial problem in this idea. Differentiated from the general theory of others, the colonial viewpoint to others is consistent in order not to face others as colonized subjects. In this sense this subaltern group is not recognized as a partner to dialogue, exchange, and sympathy, and it is the conclusion of this article. By the way, what is worse lately is the global capitalism makes an attempt to re-colonization of global village by the tougher form than that of past colonialism and imperialism. The past colonial desire is revived in the form of new colonialism by the neoliberal de-territorialization. On a level of glocal public good, the logic of globalization should be overcome. This is the reason why we have to renew talks on the ideas as like human rights, world peace, democracy, public ethics on the axis of the local culture.
