탈식민주의적 관점에서 본 다문화 교육

본 연구는 국가횡단시대 이주자의 급증에 따라 다문화주의를 사회 통합의 원리로 수용한 한국 사회의 다문화 교육에 대한 논의를 탈식민주의적 관점에서 비판적으로 검토하고 문화적 차이를 다루는 또 다른 접근법으로서 국가횡단적 비교문화 교육을 제안하려는 목적을 지닌다. 탈식민적 관점은 각 국가의 전통과 문화로 부착된 가치와 실천들이 문화제국주의적 위계 속에서 타자화를 정당화 하기위한 문화정치학의 구성물임을 보여준다. 이에 비추어 볼 때 현재의 문화적 차이를 자연스럽게 전제한 뒤 차이에 따른 인정과 관용을 추구하는 다문화 교육은 다음과 같은 문제를 야기하는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 비대칭적으로 문화적 차이가 구성된 권력관계를 건드리지 않으면서 현재 알려진 문화적 특징을 바탕으로 다양성에 대한 인정을 주장하는 것은 문화적 차이를 구성한 민족/국가 간의 권력의 위계를 재생산하는 위험성을 지닌다. 따라서 차이를 인정하고자 하는 방법이 차이를 형성하고 위계적으로 만든 메커니즘을 재생산하는 결과를 야기하게 될 수 있다. 이 점에 착안하여 문화적 차이의 인정이 초래하는 타자화의 재생산을 넘어설 수 있는 방법으로서 국가 문화적 차이 이면에 작동되는 국가 간의 교차적 메커니즘을 드러낼 수 있는 국가횡단적 비교 문화 교육을 제안하고자 한다. 본 연구에서 정의하는 국가횡단적 비교문화 교육은 비대칭적 차이로 재현되고 있는 문화적 차이를 출발점으로 삼아서 그 이면에 깔려 있는 각기 내부의 이질성들이 선택/배제되는 메커니즘을 읽어내고 그것들이 경계를 넘어 상호 작용하는 관계성을 읽을 수 있게 해 주는 방법으로 보고자 한다.
Abstract
This research aims to examine multicultural education which has been adopted as a method for social incorporation in the transnational age and suggest a transnational comparative cultural education as a way to deal with cultural difference. Postcolonial perspective shows that specific values and practices considered as traditional culture are cultural construction to justify cultural others in culturally imperialistic hierarchy. From this perspective, tolerance in multicultural education results in national hierarchy by assuming cultural difference as a given thing and not problematizing the political process to cause cultural differences. In other words tolerance of differences with considering cultural differences as a given thing produces the power relations among nations. mechanism This paper suggest a transnational comparative cultural education in order to deal with cultural differences without re/producing othering process, which means a way to reveal cross internal and national connections behind cultural differences. In this research 'transnational comparative cultural education is defined as a method that reveals cross internal and national connections to construct cultural differences in order to reproduce and justify national hierarchy , which is by examining the mechanism to cause assymetry culture between West and non West, the 1st world and the 2nd/3rd world.
