연암사상에 나타난 장자철학적 교우론의 특성

이 글은 연암 박지원의 사상에 반영된 장자철학적 교우론의 특징을 살펴보는데 목적이 있다. 연암은 시대와 사회적 정황상 유가철학의 토대 위에서 세계와 인간을 이해할 수밖에 없었지만, 그는 ‘법고창신’을 제창하며 전통과 현대를 극복 지양해야 할 대상으로 보고 새로운 미래를 모색하고자 한 깨어있는 지식인이었다. 특히 그는 적서차별을 부정하며, 비록 제한적일망정 평등주의에 입각한 인간관을 제창한 선각자였다. 연암은 다양한 당색을 가진 인물들과 격의 없이 교류하였을 뿐만 아니라 자신의 능력과 무관하게 차별받고 있던 서얼들과의 친교를 통해 시대와 현실에 맞선 교우관계를 형성한 바 있다. 특히 연암의 교유관계는 조선을 넘어 중국에까지 걸쳐있었는데, 이는 ‘북벌’에 맞선 ‘북학’의 이념으로 확장 전개되는 계기가 되었다. 이 글은 이러한 연암 교우론의 한 가지 특징을 이루는 것이 도가철학 가운데 특히 장자철학과 밀접한 연관성을 갖는다는 점에 주목하고, 그 사유내용을 천착한 것이다. 장자는 진정한 교우관계를 일컬어 ‘막역지교’라고 표현한다. 이 글은 이 점에 주목하고 연암에게서도 만일 ‘막역지교’가 확인 가능한 것이라면, ‘막역지교’란 어떠한 교우관계를 가지는 존재들인지, 그리고 그 교우관계의 기준은 무엇인지 등을 장자철학과의 연관 맥락에서 모색해본 것이다. 이러한 검토의 결과 연암의 교우론에서 발견되는 근대지향적 인간관 제창의 의의와 더불어 그 이념의 내용이 자신의 시대를 극복하고 새로운 시대를 선도하는 데까지 나아가지는 못했던 일정한 한계가 있었음을 확인한 것이 이 글의 내용이다.
Abstract
This writing has a purpose in examining the characteristics of the friendship theory of Chuang-tzu's philosophy reflected in Yeonam's thought. Yeonam had no choice but to understand humans and the world on the basis of the foundation of Confucian philosophy in the times and social circumstances, but he was a waking man of knowledge who tried to seek a new future, proclaiming the creation of new things from the old and seeing both the tradition and the modern as the objects that should be overcome and sublated. In particular, he negated the discrimination between the son of a legal wife and the son of a concubine, and though limited, he was a pioneer who advocated a human view based on egalitarianism. As well as Yeonam exchanged freely with the figures with various party colors, he has formed the friendship against the times and reality through the son of a concubine and the son born between a aristocratic man and a lower-class woman who discriminated regardless of their abilities. In particular, Yeonam's friendship extended as far as China beyond Joseon, and this served as an opportunity for expansion and development into the idea of 'the Northern Studies' against 'the Northern Conquest'. This writing takes note of the point that what forms a characteristic of Yeonam's friendship theory has a close relationship particularly with Chuang-tzu's philosophy in Taoist philosophy, and studies the contents of his thought. Chuang-tzu refers to a true friendship as 'Close Acquaintances'. This writing takes note of this point, and seeks what kind of friendship close acquaintances has and what the standard of the friendship is from the context related to Chuang-tzu's philosophy, if 'Close Acquaintances' can be confirmed in Yeonam. As a result of this examination, this writing confirms that the significance of proclaiming a modern-oriented human view and the contents of the ideology discovered in Yeonam's friendship theory have a certain limit that could not go as far as leading a new age by overcoming his age.
